Prof. Bruno C. De Cooman has taken over the chair of Material Design at GIFT, Korea. with special emphasis on materials science and physics of engineering materials, this includes phase transformation, the microstructural engineering of hot and cold rolled steel, precipitation and recrystallization kinetics in advanced steels, especially dual phase, TRIP and bainitic steels, the annealing of steel, the continuous galvanising and electro-planting of sheet steel; coating and metals; finally semiconductors and glass ceramics.
The Graduate Institute of Ferrous Technology (GIFT) is an institute for graduate-level education and research in the field of iron and steel technology.
Together with POSTECH, POSCO, and RIST (Research Institute of Ferrous Technology) it offers education in engineering by combining the human and physical assets available.
Established with a mission to grow into a world leader in education and research specializing in iron and steel technology, it aims at education specialists ready to become future leaders in ferrous technologies.
Bruno C. De Cooman has become well-known, e.g., as initiator and editor of TRIP - International Conference of TRIP - aided high-strength ferrous alloys.
