The GIFT Master’s Public Defense of Academic year 2010- 2nd semester is scheduled on December 20th, Monday. The public defense will take place at GIFT Lecture room 301 and 302. ( PhD Students who wish to graduate 2011. Feb may refer to this email )
1. Eligibility : Master’s Program student who wish to graduate on Feb. of 2011
- The MS Degree Course requirements (GPA 3.0∧), the MS Thesis, and the MS Thesis Public Defense are the three prerequisites needed to obtain a MS degree from GIFT.
[MS Degree course requirements : min. 18 course credits+ min. 12 research credits]
2. Selection of the thesis examining committee
a. Composition
- MS : Advisor (committee chair) + 2 referees * students should have discussion to chose referees with their advisor.
b. Submission
- How to : inform the public defense date to all referee members and fill out the attached document and submit to laboratory assistant before submission deadline
- Submission deadline : December 1st, Wednesday, 11am
- If your referee member have prefer time on the day please let me know as soon as possible.
3. Master’s Public defense
All GIFT MS Degree students are required to publicly defend their MS Thesis by means of an oral presentation in English. A Suggested duration for the Public Defense is 30 minutes; this includes time for questioning of the MS Candidates.
The MS Public Defense should last no longer than 1 hour per 1 candidate.
The GIFT MS Public Defense consists of two parts:
- Part 1: Oral Presentation (suggested duration is 15-20min.)
- Part 2: Questions and Answer Session (suggested duration is 10-15 min.)
After the Public Defense the committee deliberates and makes an unanimous decision to PASS or FAIL the candidate.
The committee chairperson ( = advisor) drafts the MS Thesis Report and all the committee members sign the report.
If a candidate FAILS the, he/she can redo the MS Thesis exam only once.
