In order to extend the driving range for the widespread adoption of electric vehicles, the development of high-energy-density batteries (350 Wh/kg) is crucial. Enhancing the energy density of batteries necessitates applying high-capacity active materials within the electrodes and improving the electrode thickness, which forms the fundamental unit of a battery. This study encompasses the development of high surface area electrodes enabling the application of high-capacity active materials at elevated proportions, along with the creation of binders. Additionally, it includes process development to realize a cathode structure.

Developed conductive agents, comprising Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes and Single-walled Carbon Nanotubes, allowing an increased proportion of high-capacity cathode material (NCM811) within the electrode. Also, introduced a novel adhesive binder based on crosslinking reactions. Investigated correlations between the properties of conductive agents/binders and the characteristics of slurry-electrode-battery, proposing a conductive agent/binder system capable of enhancing the lifespan of high-capacity active materials. Manufactured high-solid-content (80-90%) slurries to facilitate the realization of cathodes (>5 mAh/cm2), and confirmed the battery characteristics corresponding to electrode loading.
