ICASS- International Conference on Advanced Structural Steels

ICASS 2006 was held in Gyeong Ju from 22nd to 24th of August, 2006. It was organized by color=blue>The Korean Institute of Metals and Materials and POSCO .

Modern technology demands high performance materials for each specific application and many exotic and innovative materials have been investigated and developed. In the steel industry, with the help of the recent increase in the demand for steel products and raw materials, large scale steel research projects have been able to be launched. The “Ultra-steel project" in Japan, the “HIPERS-21 project" in Korea, and the “New generation steel project" in China are good examples of such projects.
In pursuing research into conventional grade steels with extreme properties, steel researchers realized that a much better understanding of ferrite transformations and new innovative ideas for processing are needed to achieve their goals. This has led to much collaborative effort and exchange of ideas.The ICASS (International Conference on Advanced Structural Steel) was born in these circumstances.

The first meeting, ICASS 2002, was held in Tsukuba, Japan, and the second in Shanghai, China. We are pleased to announce that the third meeting, ICASS 2006, will be held at the Gyeongju Hilton Hotel, Gyeongju, Korea. The Korean Institute of Metals and Materials(KIM) and POSCO will organize this conference. As the old capital city of the Shilla dynasty (BC57-AD935), Gyeongju is one of the world heritage sites of UNESCO, and is referred to as “The Museum without Walls?

The topics of the conference include all of the theoretical and practical aspects of the structure, processing and properties of advanced structural steels. You are cordially invited to this “Festival of Science and Friendship"
