Prof. Youn-Bae Kang of GIFT was awarded the Dong Seok Yoon Award at the 2021 Fall General Meeting of KIM+ held on October 21st and at the Society Award Ceremony.

The Dong Seok Yoon Award is awarded to members with outstanding academic and technical achievements in the metals and materials field. This award is given to the profits generated from funds donated by the late Dong Seok Yoon, former president of the Korean Society of Metals and Materials, and the Society Award Fund. Prof. Youn-Bae Kang has been actively conducting research in the field of high-temperature processing of steel and metal, and contributed to the academic development of the metal material field through outstanding research achievements, such as developing clogging prevention technology in continuous casting of extremely clean steel through the use of thermodynamics and phase diagram.

The Korean Institute of Metals and Materials(KIM+)is the largest society in Korea with over 17,000 material-related researchers from industries, universities, and research institutes as members, and is the most prestigious in the field of metals and materials academics in Korea. At this year's fall symposium, about 1,160 papers, 23 specialized symposiums, and various topics were presented in 29 general sessions. In particular, the Steel Technology Symposium, which could not be held last year due to COVID-19, was held consecutively on the 20th and 21st. GIFT has produced the 40th (2010) Professor Emeritus Nack Joon Kim, the 46th (2016) Emeritus Professor Chong-Soo Lee, and the 49th (2019) Professor Sung-Joon Kim, Dean of GIFT, as presidents.​
