Prof. Dae-Geun Hong was selected as the winner of the Best Paper Award at the 2021 Korean Council on Systems Engineering (KCOSE) Spring Conference held at the Jeju Global Center of National Information society Agency(NIA) for two days from June 24 to 25, 2021. The award decision was announced on the website of KCOSE on November 15, 2021, and the award ceremony was held at the 2021 KCOSE Fall Conference held at Seoul National University from December 3 to 4, 2021.
In this study, an advanced planning & scheduling (APS) system linked to equipment and quality data was designed with an approach according to the system engineering methodology, and based on this, an APS system prototype was implemented and verified. In order to support intelligent scheduling, information on operation and failure of injection equipment and information on defective products and inventory tracking were utilized. In this process, a model combining genetic algorithms was proposed and applied to deal with the complexity of heuristic rules and facility and quality constraints. This APS system overcomes the problems of the existing MRP-based step-by-step and linear scheduling method and improves the productivity of the injection process. Accordingly, the operation efficiency of the facility was improved, the proper inventory compliance rate was improved, and as a result, the customer's delivery time was observed. Company S's APS system implemented based on the system architecture improved the quantitative target facility utilization rate and appropriate inventory compliance rate by 25%p and 21%p, respectively. In addition, through this study, the degree of improvement in production efficiency was confirmed in terms of production workers and managers. In the future, the APS system will be expanded to be applied in the injection process and will be expanded to the assembly process and painting process through custom development.
This study is the result of a smart factory stage 2 (advanced) construction project of a mid-sized manufacturing company, and is attracting attention from both the industry and academia. As the effect of the introduction of the smart factory became evident, benchmarking love calls from surrounding manufacturing companies continued. In addition, system engineering is applied throughout the entire APS system development cycle, from the derivation of stakeholder requirements to system architecture design and performance verification, and is being recognized for its excellence and usability as a demonstration case.
