Professor Hyoung Seop Kim from the GIFT at POSTECH recently received the Distinguished Award (THERMEC' 2023 DISTINGUISHED AWARD) at the THERMEC 2023 conference held in Austria.

Having received his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from Seoul National University, Professor Kim has been a faculty member in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the Graduate Institute of Ferrous & Eco Materials Technology at POSTECH since 2008. He is a member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology and the Korean Academy of Engineering, as well as having served as the president of the Korean Powder Metallurgy Institute and the Korean Society for Precision Engineering, leading the advancement of materials and processing studies in South Korea.

Professor Kim was recognized as the recipient of this award for his pioneering research in the field of materials over the past 30 years, utilizing computational simulation and experiments to contribute to technological advancements for a safer and healthier life for humanity through outstanding research outcomes in the field of metal processing engineering.

The THERMEC conference has been held every two to three years since its inception in 1988 to activate research on advanced material processes and manufacturing. Approximately 1,500 individuals participated in this year's conference.

Among Koreans, only six individuals, including Honorary Professor Dong-Nyeon Lee from Seoul National University, have received this award thus far. At POSTECH, following Professors Ha-Geun Lee and Lee Chong Soo, Professor Hyoung Seop Kim is the third recipient of this prestigious award.
