The Graduate Institute of Ferrous & Eco Materials Technology (GIFT) at POSTECH has signed a five-year academic exchange agreement (MOU) with the Advanced Institute for Materials Research (AIMR) at Tohoku University, Japan, to expand international joint research and academic exchange in the field of advanced materials.

Tohoku University is one of Japan’s leading research-oriented universities, and AIMR, established under the World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI), has achieved global research competitiveness in AI-driven materials research and next-generation energy materials. AIMR also operates international collaborative research centers with world-renowned institutions such as the University of Cambridge, the University of Chicago, and Tsinghua University, further strengthening its global research network.

Through this agreement, the two institutions plan to promote joint research in hydrogen materials, AI-driven Materials Informatics, and structural and functional materials, while expanding international collaboration activities including exchanges of faculty members, researchers, and students, as well as joint SCI publications. In particular, significant synergies are expected in the development of next-generation energy materials and materials for extreme environments through the integration of AI-based materials design and mathematical modeling technologies.
