Professor Emeritus Nak-Jun Kim, who served as the 3rd Director of the Graduate Institute of Ferrous & Eco Materials Technology (GIFT) at POSTECH, has been elected as a new member of the National Academy of Sciences, Republic of Korea.

The National Academy of Sciences, Republic of Korea, is the nation’s highest-level academic institution. 
Researchers who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of scholarship are elected as members through recommendations from leading academic societies in their respective fields and a rigorous evaluation process.

Scholars elected as members are granted lifetime membership in accordance with the National Academy of Sciences Act and are recognized as leading scholars who contribute to the advancement of academic research in Korea.

As a world-renowned researcher in metallurgical and materials engineering, Professor Emeritus Kim has made significant contributions to the advancement of research in steel and metallic materials, as well as to the education and development of outstanding researchers in these fields.

In particular, during his tenure as the 3rd Director of GIFT at POSTECH, he played a key role in strengthening the institute’s educational and research capabilities, establishing a foundation for international collaboration, and advancing its academic excellence.

His election as a new member of the National Academy of Sciences, Republic of Korea, is a significant achievement that recognizes his outstanding research accomplishments and scholarly contributions at the national level.
